What is it?
Course Visual Inspections are industry-accredited visual assessments and the survey is designed to collect critical information on the condition of your paved infrastructure assets, which in turn can be utilised for effective and proactive asset management. Through use of a dedicated fleet of vehicles, UKPMS accredited data collection software, and through the dedication of our team of UKPMS accredited CVI inspectors, we can deliver CVI nationwide in line with prevailing industry standards. Common defects assessed and recorded include wearing course and surface deterioration, cracking, rutting, and edge deterioration, and many more.
CVI was developed by industry asset management experts and the survey is a highly cost-effective, rapid, network level assessment method.

Why do it?
CVI data has a variety of applications to support Asset Managers and Highways Engineers. The defect data collated can be utilised to drive maintenance scheme identification and prioritisation, support condition analysis and mapping, inform network-level performance monitoring, and the data is also utilised in forward projection modelling of surface and structural condition. With defect data collated as opposed to summarised condition bandings, the data is also highly auditable.
PTS are unique within the industry in being able to monitor and report on the progress of survey activity in near real time using our in-house ReGen software. The system affords 24-hour access to clients, allowing data validation, analysis, and delivery to be done seamlessly. Clients can also view network condition using an intuitive Red-Amber-Green styling to provide valuable condition information in rapid timescales.
PTS now also offer the Enhanced CVI (also known as a Coarse Network Survey) which provides additional defect categories, severity information, and surface inventory type, which further enhances the value of the survey.
PTS offer a full suite of UKPMS services including SCANNER, SCRIM, DVI and FNS in addition to CVI. We also provide asset inventory surveys, the new Annual Engineer’s Inspection, and cater to bespoke survey requirements.
